Come with an open mind and a willingness to learn from some of the best in officiating. The dedication that the staff has to each camper is unbelievable! This is not a camp where you are over worked or just a number. This camp provides a ton of 1 on 1 feedback. Every question is answered and every "why" is answered. The staff at MTG will take your game to the next level! This camp should be a MUST ATTENED for anyone in officiating.
Thank you to the whole MTG staff! Ya'll are 1st class! Josh Madsen |
There is not an officiating clinic in the country that provides this type of educational opportunity. This small, close knit, hands on environment provides EVERY camper with their own unique experience. MTG utilizes class room sessions that are directly applied to on-court situations, where you are learning in the moment by officiating along side a mentor. It is truly a tremendous experience. Courtney and his staff are considered family to me. Me saying, “MTG has impacted my officiating career,” would be an understatement. Thank you guys for everything! Hunter Allen |
After feeling stagnant in the progression of my officiating career, I was working mid major D1 and going to college camps and not really receiving much feed back or criticism, I knew I needed a different look. 2014 I reached out to try be one of the 12 invited to work with Courtney Kirkland and Manage the Grays. The 1st day of camp he explained we would be working the NBA 2 person system. I was thinking why am I coming up here to work 2 person, I’m trying to grow! Little did I know there was a method to the madness. It was about going back to the basics and perfecting the fundamentals of our 2 person system.
Re-learning 2 person was frustrating at first and had me thinking more during a game than I ever had. Once I understood the why, we implemented what we learned into the 3 person system the next day. That changed my entire approach to officiating in that moment. I understood why our movements at trail and lead were so important. I was more engaged and more confident in what I was seeing from those positions. The film breakdown and dialogue til 2am was an added treat. I was excited to use my new techniques from Manage the Grays in my upcoming college camps. I had grown in those 3 days and it was obvious to me and my supervisors. I was hired into the ACC that fall. I worked some D1 conference championships and the NCAA 1st round for the 2nd time. I went back to Manage the Grays that summer and picked up where we left off, starting with the 2 person system. That fall I was hired in the Big 10 conference. After my 3rd year in the ACC I was invited to work the tournament. I also advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA championship. For the 4th year in a row I attended Manage the Grays and was asked to be a mentor, I was elated and honored. That fall I was hired in the Big 12, American, and Big East conferences. I worked 2 rounds of the ACC tournament and I am proud to say in 2018 I have been selected to be one of the top 40 officials in the country invited to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA championship. I have a goal to become a Final Four and championship game official. I know coming to Manage the Grays has absolutely helped me elevate my game and has given me an extra confidence to know it can come to fruition. I recommend this camp to every official I come in contact with at every level. It is a real treat and if you are open to learning and being honest with your self and your ability the sky is the limit on the value of attending Manage the Grays. -Talisa Green |
On behalf of Anthony Freeman and myself, I would like to express a heartfelt thank you for working with both of us individually as well as collectively. We both learned some strengths as well as weaknesses to work on. I would like to give a special thanks to Krystal, Courtney, and Chaz for working with Anthony. He is super excited about basketball and gives his all. Courtney, Billy, and Shawn thank you for informing me of my weaknesses and giving me a renewed passion. I have shared my goals with the staff and feel each one will push me, reshape me and mold me to achieve those goals. Every official I spoke with who is a mentor currently expressed how they continue to attend this particular camp because of how it elevated their game. I look forward to continuing that upward trend. We are already preparing to show up next year. Anthony plans to show up leaner. I plan to show up to be more aggressive. I not only want to call the semi final again but call the championship pro am game. I will challenge myself to be the best of the campers next year. Know that each of you helped our growth.
Thanks Ryan & Anthony Freeman |
Manage the Gray's camp has been by far the Best Teaching Camp I have attended! It is a Truly a humble, graceful, and family environment!
I was Challenge/encourage to grow and learn in a respectful and graceful way. Courtney and the Staff truly communicate care for each camper and are passionate about your Growth as a Basketball Official! This camp Opened my Eyes and my Mind to see and Officiate the game of Basketball from a whole new angle! And it answered the WHY question a lot for me in Officiating Basketball and taught me how to do work to prepare for the next play! Thank you so much for allowing me to attend the camp and the opportunity to learn from some of the best teacher's of Basketball Officials! -Christopher Klicko |
I am so honored to have been a part of Manage The Grays as a camper. The instruction that I received has helped launch my career from amateurs to pros. The in depth approach that the staff provides is invaluable and the hard work that goes into teaching and helping develop young officials has been by far the best!
I am truly appreciative of the family atmosphere and the well organized approach toward professionalism. The staff truly cares about each camper that comes through the system and there becomes an immediate connection with the other campers. Mitchell Ervin NBA Referee |
The instruction at Manage the Grays is very personable and really as close to one-on-one as you can get. The clinicians work some games with you and can give you "in game" feedback because they are in the battle with you. Being able to have a better feel of what you are experiencing allows them to convey some tailor made instruction that suits you as the individual referee rather than a lot of the cliche terms you hear at some other camps that can encompass all types of referees.

This question has really stoked my thoughts....
Manage The Grays is more than a place to officiate games in the summertime. From the beginning, this group gave birth to something within me I didn't recognize, but Courtney did. The patience he showed me has given me the platform to do what I love doing, helping others develop. I see now what I do with SOTG is really the foundation of what Manage The Grays did within me,"SAW MORE than just a person with a whistle and a striped shirt." I'm forever grateful for Courtney's ability, with the help of his amazing staff, to see more in me than I was able to see in myself. The platform given by Manage The Grays has made me a better individual first as well as being the best official I can be. Thank you for your time, Shawn Goode S.O.T.G Officiating |
